Tracing back to past history, many vegetables and fruits were not easily discovered in any places in each part of the world. It is proven by the fact that before Columbus finished his first voyage, Europeans had never heard and seen several vegetables and fruits like potatoes, corn, pepper, avocadoes, squashes, sweet potatoes, and cocoa. Their unawareness might be caused by several facts that some plants wouldn’t grow in their place or the fruits and vegetables were mishandled, and many other reasons.
It is interesting to find out that some fruits and vegetables have their own history. One to mention is tomatoes. Undoubtedly, tomatoes from San Marzano are the excellent variety and the best ones to make sauces. From the origin place where tomatoes were found, South America, tomatoes were shipped across the continent and other countries began to figure out about tomatoes and they also learned several ways in consuming tomatoes.
Furthermore, avocado was also unfamiliar fruits for most Europeans. This fruit grew significantly in Spain and began to be popular in other European countries after the World War II. The reason why avocado couldn’t be carried to other places was because of the transportation issues.
Additionally, in America, corn has become the favorite palates as well as in Middle East when they serve the corn flour with wheat or bread. However, corn is apparently only interesting for Italian but not all Europeans. Pepper is varied into some varieties. One of example, Bell peppers, includes the green peppers, the red peppers, the purple peppers, the black peppers, and the yellow peppers. For Spaniard, pepper is called pimiento, for French it is known piment doux, and for Italians is pepperone. Today, pepper has become one of important ingredients for many delicious foods or dishes from all over the countries for its distinguished taste.
Everyone loves chocolate, some experts even stated that it may bring relaxing situation and also influence someone’s mood. At the first time, chocolate was known as cocoa. Speaking of Cocoa may remind you to the great era of Aztec who consumed Cocoa for the first time. Aztec people used it as aphrodisiac drink. When the plant was carried to Europe, it was simply died. Later on, the one who found incredible way to consume cocoa was Spanish with the idea to serve cocoa as a chocolate drink. Today, many countries are manufacturing chocolate for larger industry.
