Cancer is one of the diseases that drives the world’s attention. Many people who suffer from this disease are facing the same problem which is what best treatment that help them to remove the cancer from their body.
Among the known forms of breast cancer, Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC) is said to be the most aggressive one. The signs indicate IBC is reddened and swollen skin over the breast, whereas the nipple is usually flattened or blistered. According to the observation, the breast cancer patients suffer from IBC is less than 1 percent.
Before IBC was identified, this breast cancer was confused with a benign infection of the breast or mastitis. Breastfeeding women are the subjects often suffer from mastitis. To recognize the difference, IBC is similar to mastitis only it comes with fever and the presence of bacterial infection. To diagnose IBC, a biopsy of the involved skin over the breast is needed. Also, it includes the lymph nodes of the armpit.
The details from the study show that women with IBC are usually younger than women with other types of breast cancer. The risk factors for IBC haven’t yet obtained. Unfortunately, IBC doesn’t only attack women, this cancer is also recognized as a more common type of breast cancer in men.
As a note, IBC occurs to women of all races and ethnicities, although – for example – the African-Americans have higher incidence than white Americans in North America. Whereas in Africa and Asia haven’t been figured out the exact details.
IBC sufferers should follow chemotherapy which is usually followed by surgery in order to remove the breast or called a mastectomy. The surgery is also carried out to remove lymph nodes of the armpit. The radiation to the chest wall and armpit is also involved.
Commonly, sufferer will be taken to further step after the surgery to remove the cancer which is the surveillance to detect recurrence early. Thus, an IBC patient is expected to follow standard treatment like chemotherapy and radiation. However, the therapies available seem like inadequate for this disease.
The recommendation given for IBC patients is to consider a clinical trial testing a new therapy since it is believed to be better than the standard treatments found out there. Actually, most IBC patients as well as other cancer patients are suggested to go for clinical studies by considering the clinical trials that are designed appropriately and under good supervision.
