Treatments for Inflammatory Breast Cancer

Among the known forms of breast cancer, Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC) is said to be the most aggressive one. The signs indicate IBC is reddened and swollen skin over the breast, whereas the nipple is usually flattened or blistered. IBC sufferers should follow chemotherapy which is usually followed by surgery in order to remove the breast or called a mastectomy. The surgery is also carried out to remove lymph nodes of the armpit. The radiation to the chest wall and armpit is also involved.

Thus, an IBC patient is expected to follow standard treatment like chemotherapy and radiation. However, the therapies available seem like inadequate for this disease.

The recommendation given for IBC patients is to consider a clinical trial testing a new therapy since it is believed to be better than the standard treatments found out there. Actually, most IBC patients as well as other cancer patients are suggested to go for clinical studies by considering the clinical trials that are designed appropriately and under good supervision.
